Operational excellence is part of our strategic focus and plays a central role in the continuous optimisation of our processes.
Robin Huth, Plant Manager at Masterflex, provides the answer.
As a quality leader, we have a clear ambition to differentiate ourselves from other hose manufacturers. In this respect, we endeavour to continuously improve our core processes, which enables us to increase our process quality and at the same time ensure process stability. As a result, we can ensure consistently high product quality for our customers.
By operational excellence, we mean the ability to optimise the core processes along the value chain in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. At Masterflex, operational excellence is one of the four strategic pillars alongside innovation, internationalisation and digital transformation.
Here at the Gelsenkirchen site, there are several projects underway that follow the lean concept, i.e. the avoidance of waste of any kind. We want to create structures, processes and, above all, an appropriate atmosphere in order to recognise and eliminate waste. This is also one of the foundations of operational excellence.
Our aim is to constantly optimise our core processes in terms of efficiency and effectiveness through operational excellence. We want to align the processes along the value stream in such a way that they interlock seamlessly and smoothly and are as error-prone as possible. At Masterflex, we are focussing primarily on the further development of networking and automation. In addition to the digital transformation, the further development of our employees also plays a decisive role in this. Through digitalisation, we are not only accelerating technological development, but also counteracting human error.
A very striking example and one of the largest projects here at the Gelsenkirchen site is a pilot system in extrusion: we want to stabilise and standardise the process with the help of artificial intelligence and corresponding assistance and camera systems. This will give our colleagues at the machine the tools they need to avoid errors.
In the further course of the project, we also want to test the knowledge gained on other systems. In this way, we are also counteracting the ever-increasing shortage of skilled labour. And in doing so, we are offering our customers even greater flexibility - with an ever-expanding product portfolio. It is also a very good example of how operational excellence helps to increase quality at Masterflex.
Our answer to the specific requirements of technical hoses are customised hose designs.
